Police probing incident of envelope being taped to Tarique Rahman's car
The contents of the envelope remain unknown, as neither the police nor the BNP has officially disclosed any information
Police are investigating an incident in which an unidentified motorcyclist taped a white envelope to the bulletproof vehicle of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman in the capital's Gulshan area.
The incident occurred around 11:45pm on Wednesday (14 January) on Road No 65 in Gulshan, while Tarique was inside the vehicle. Members of his security force (CSF) were escorting the car from both the front and rear at the time.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner (Gulshan division) Rawnak Alam told journalists today (18 January) that the motorcyclist has not yet been identified and an investigation is underway.
According to police, the motorcyclist approached the vehicle at high speed, taped a white envelope to it using scotch tape, and fled the scene. The contents of the envelope remain unknown, as neither the police nor the BNP has officially disclosed any information.
A general diary (GD) has been filed at Gulshan Police Station in connection with the incident.
An officer of the Gulshan division said CCTV footage from the area has been collected, but the footage is unclear. The envelope was not handed over to police and is currently in the possession of the CSF, the officer added.
