US ambassador meets Tarique Rahman, pledges to work with all Bangladeshi parties
During the meeting, they exchanged greetings with each other and discussed ways to develop bilateral relations
The United States has expressed its commitment to working with all Bangladeshi political parties to promote peace and prosperity ahead of the upcoming elections, newly appointed US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent Christensen said following a meeting with BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman today (19 January).
"I met today (Monday) with BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman to hear his perspective on upcoming elections. The United States looks forward to working with all Bangladeshi political parties to advance shared peace and prosperity," Ambassador Christensen wrote on his X handle.
The meeting was held at the BNP chairman's office in Gulshan, Dhaka, and attended by several officials from the US embassy. During the discussion, both sides exchanged greetings and explored ways to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation between the two countries, according to BSS.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee member Humayun Kabir, Tarique's adviser Mahdi Amin, and the BNP chairman's press secretary Saleh Shibli were also present at the meeting.
Earlier in the day, Canadian High Commissioner Ajit Singh paid a courtesy call on Tarique Rahman around 11am.
