Police arrest couple in Bandarban over pornography charges

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested a couple accused of producing and promoting pornographic content online.
According to Special Superintendent of Police (Media) of the CID, Jasim Uddin Khan, the couple, known as Bristi and Azim, were arrested at a house in the Madhya Para area of Bandarban town early this morning (20 October).
A police officer involved in the operation told The Business Standard that the arrests were made at around 4am.
"They had moved to this new house after changing residences on 10 October," the officer said.
The couple recently drew public attention following a report published by the online news portal The Dissent, which described how they had entered the global adult film industry and allegedly promoted the recruitment of new creators through social media platforms such as Telegram.
The report also detailed how their activities were gaining traction among younger audiences, prompting concern and debate across the country.
Under the Pornography Control Act 2012, producing, distributing, or possessing pornography is a criminal offence in Bangladesh, punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to Tk5 lakh.
