Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid homage to the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with flowers at Dhanmondi No 32 early today on the occasion of the historic 7 March.

The premier was accompanied by cabinet members and senior party leaders.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Saturday, on the eve of the historic 7 March, said, "Bangabandhu's speech was a source of immense power for people to inspire them in the fight for Bangladesh's independence."

"Bangabandhu's speech is an essential and undeniable chapter of our history and national life, and its appeal is eternal," she added.

She hoped that the speech would continue to empower the world's oppressed, deprived, and freedom-loving people.

Sheikh Rehana, younger daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman accompanied her sister Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina while a munajat was offered praying salvation of the departed souls of the August 15, 1975 martyrs.

The leaders and workers of the Awami League and its affiliated organisations also paid homage to Bangabandhu with flowers.

Meanwhile, various political parties and organisations have taken up various programs on the occasion of 7 March.

On this day 50 years ago, a sea of people roared with the speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Bangabandhu became the poet of the great poem of Bangladesh's independence on that day. The proclamation of independence resounded in the air of Bangladesh at the sound of his thunderous voice.
