PM gives Tk8.63cr aid to 6,970 more qawmi madrasahs

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, as per her commitment, has provided financial assistance of over Tk8.63 crore to more 6,970 qawmi madrasahs across the country on the occasion of holy Ramadan.

The financial assistance was sent to the authorities concerned through an electronic fund transfer system on May 17.

The prime minister's press wing has informed the media of the matter.

According to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), 2,202 qawmi madrasahs in Dhaka division received over Tk2.55 crore, 1,211 madrasahs in Chattogram division more than Tk1.77 crore and 937 madrasahs in Mymensingh division got over Tk1.31 crore.

Besides, 839 madrasahs in Rangpur division received Tk94.25 lakh, 662 madrasahs in Rajshahi division Tk74.45 lakh, 431 madrasahs in Khulna division Tk55.80 lakh, 486 madrasas in Sylhet division Tk48.60 lakh and 202 madrasahs in Barishal division got Tk26.35 lakh.

Tk10,000 has been allocated for each madrasah with 100 students or fewer, Tk15,000 for each having students between 101 and 200 and Tk20,000 for each madrasah having above 200 students, the press wing said.

On May 14 while opening the disbursement of Tk1,250-crore cash assistance among 50 lakh poor families, the prime minister declared that the government will give financial assistance to all mosques and 7,000 more qawmi madrasahs across the country before the Eid-ul Fitr.

Sheikh Hasina said the government, in the first phase, had given donation of nearly Tk10 crore to 6,959 qawmi madrasahs-cum-orphanages across the country ahead of the Ramadan.
