Pedestrian shot during police firing exercise in Chuadanga
Doctors said the bullet went an inch into his chest, requiring transfer to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for advanced care
A pedestrian was shot during an annual police firing exercise in Chuadanga today (11 December).
The injured was identified as Babu Hossain, 32, son of Hamid Uddin of Satgari Mondolpara in Chuadanga municipality.
Dr Ehsanul Haque Tanmoy, surgery consultant at Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, said a bullet had penetrated about an inch into the left side of his chest. "Surgery was not possible here, so we advised sending him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital," he said.
The incident occurred around 12:30pm at the Jafarpur BGB Battalion, where the police were conducting musketry firing. He was first taken to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital and later referred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Chuadanga Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mizanur Rahman said the two-day firing exercise was being conducted in compliance with all rules and after alerting the public.
"However, the source of the bullet will be investigated," he added.
Locals said he was travelling by motorcycle from Haiderpur towards Satgari when a bullet struck the left side of his chest. Nearby residents rescued him and took him to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital.
