Bangladeshi shot near border in Chuadanga
No statement was immediately available from the Border Guard Bangladesh about the shooting.
A Bangladeshi national sustained injuries after being hit by pellets allegedly fired by India's Border Security Force (BSF) along the Notunpara border area of Jibannagar upazila of Chuadanga yesterday evening (19 March).
Azad Hossain sustained injuries to multiple parts of his body and was initially taken to Jibannagar Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
According to local sources, Azad and two to three others were attempting to cross the border illegally into India, allegedly to bring back narcotics.
While cutting through the barbed-wire fence near pillar 65/1 along the zero line, a BSF patrol reportedly opened fire with pellet shots.
Azad was first taken to the local upazila health complex and later admitted to the surgery ward of Chuadanga Sadar Hospital.
No statement was immediately available from the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) (Maheshpur 58 Battalion) about the shooting.
Dr Tareq Junayed, an emergency department physician at Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, said the injured man arrived at the hospital last night with multiple pellet wounds.
"He was injured by gunfire from across the border. After initial treatment, he has been admitted to the surgery ward," the doctor said.
Jibannagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Solayman Sheikh said he had heard about the incident.
"He received primary treatment at Jibannagar Upazila Health Complex. I do not have updated information on his current whereabouts," he added.
