Palli Bidyut Samity employees to 'March to Dhaka' on Wednesday with 7 demands

Without interrupting electricity provision or services, Palli Bidyut Samity employees will observe a "March to Dhaka" programme on Wednesday to press home their demands.
The Bangladesh Palli Bidyut Association (BPBA), a platform representing employees of the PBSs — rural electricity cooperatives operating across the country — announced the programme through a press release issued Tuesday night.
The BPBA's 7-point charter of demands includes removal of the Chairman of the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (REB), introduction of unified service rules for both REB and PBS employees, reinstatement of dismissed employees and withdrawal of what they term false and baseless cases filed against association members.
In a joint statement signed by four BPBA leaders, they stated that despite repeated appeals and continuous engagement with government authorities, the long-standing issues concerning service rules remain unresolved.
They further noted that although a reform committee was formed, none of its recommendations have been implemented to date.
The statement also mentioned that thousands of employees are currently working under 80 PBSs across the country under the REB.
