One killed, three injured in mob beating over theft suspicion in Faridpur
Villagers in Nagarkanda detained and beat up five people found roaming the streets late at night, following suspicion that they were thieves
One person was killed and three others were injured in a mob beating over suspected theft in Nagarkanda upazila of Faridpur early today (24 November).
Police said the incident occurred around 2am at Debinagar village under Ramnagar union.
The deceased was identified as Shahin Shikdar, 28, son of Mostafa Shikdar of Gajga village.
The injured—Suman, Parvez and Inamul, also from Gajga village—were admitted to the Nagarkanda Upazila Health Complex.
Nagarkanda Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rezaul Karim said they were informed of the incident by local residents and immediately sent a team to the spot. "Legal procedures are underway regarding the incident," he said.
According to locals, five men were seen roaming on a road in Debinagar late at night, which raised suspicion. Residents detained them and beat them. One member of the group managed to escape, while the other four were severely injured.
Shahin Shikdar, who was critically injured, was taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The remaining three were rescued and taken to the Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
