The namaz-e-janaza of Hilali Wadud Chowdhury, senior sub-editor of daily Bhorer Kagoj and presidential candidate for the upcoming Dhaka Sub-Editors Council (DSEC) election, was held at noon on Friday at the National Press Club.

A munajat was offered on the occasion, seeking eternal peace of the departed soul of Journalist Hilali Wadud.

Ilias Khan, general secretary of National Press Club; Mursalin Nomani, president of Dhaka Reporters' Unity; Quddus Afrad, president of Dhaka Journalists Union (DUJ); Sajjad Alam Khan, general secretary and former and current leaders of Dhaka Sub-Editors Council; and people of different professions, including journalists and social organizations, joined the munajat.

Expressing condolences on behalf of the National Press Club, its President Farida Yasmin said, "Till late last night he was asking for votes, every member was shocked at the news of his death."

"We had him by our side in every work. He worked silently, with no desire to show off. We have much to learn from his life. The National Press Club will always be by his side," she added.

According to his family, Wadud Chowdhury was leaving his home in Khilgaon – to attend the general meeting of the Sub-Editors Council held at the National Press Club – in the morning, when he felt chest pain.

When he was taken to Khidmah Hospital in Malibagh, the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Meanwhile, due to the sudden death of Journalist Hilali Wadud, the election of Dhaka Sub-Editors Council has been postponed from 16 January to 24 January.
