NCP, SAD protest attack on Hasnat, demand justice

Following last night's attack on Hasnat Abdullah, chief organiser (Southern region) of the National Citizen Party (NCP), his party men and members of the Students Against Discrimination (SAD) held protests in various districts, including Gazipur, Rajshahi and Brahmanbaria, demanding justice.
Earlier, NCP's Chief Organiser (Northern Region) Sarjis Alam posted about the incident on Facebook, stating, "A group of 10-12 attackers ambushed Hasnat's car in Gazipur. The car windows were smashed, and his arm was left bloodied. Anyone nearby, please protect him."
His post sparked widespread concern, leading to protests by students in several parts of Gazipur, including Chandana intersection, demanding justice.
Later, the NCP brought out a procession in protest of the attack at 9pm at Chandna intersection.
In Rajshahi, former SAD leaders and activists from the Rajshahi University held a rally, condemning the attack on Hasnat.
At 10pm, the protest march started from the university's main gate and ended with a rally in the Talaimari area of the city.
At the rally, a former SAD coordinator Salauddin Ammar said, "Attack on Hasnat Abdullah, a heroic fighter of the July revolution, is an attack on the revolution itself. This attack will not be accepted under any circumstances. Justice must be served,
"The attackers, the Awami League, must be banned. Without banning the Awami League, it will not be possible to eliminate the allies of fascism. Therefore, the Awami League must be banned immediately," he said.
In Brahmanbaria, the district unit of the NCP held a torch procession at around 10:30pm.
The procession was led by NCP Central Joint Organiser Md Ataullah and Central Organiser Zian Mahmud.
It paraded through the main roads of the town and concluded in front of the Brahmanbaria Press Club, where a protest rally was held.
Speakers at the rally included NCP district committee members Azizur Rahman Liton, Abu Bakkar Sani, and Borhan Uddin Siam, among others.
At the rally, Central Joint Organiser Md Ataullah said, "A conspiracy against Hasnat is a conspiracy against Bangladesh. To kill Hasnat is to kill the dream of Bangladesh.
"If the attackers of Hasnat Abdullah are not arrested immediately, Brahmanbaria will sever its communication links with Chattogram and Sylhet," he said.
Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, also issued a statement condemning the attack and calling for justice.
