National fisheries week 2025 to begin on August 18

National Fisheries Week 2025 will bring communities across the country together.
People will join in a collective effort to conserve and sustainably develop fisheries resources from August 18 to 24. The theme is "Building sanctuaries, filling the country with native fish."
The inaugural ceremony will be held at the Bangladesh–China Friendship Conference Centre on August 18 at 10:00 a.m., with Dr Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the Government, as the chief guest. Farida Akhtar, Advisor to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, will preside over the event.
Sixteen individuals and organisations will receive the National Fisheries Medal 2025 in gold, silver, and bronze categories for their contributions to the sector.
The week's central events include rallies and seminars. There will be technology demonstrations, documentary screenings, discussions, and cultural programmes. Activities will also honour the martyrs and the injured of the July Uprising. District and upazila-level events will feature fry release, awareness campaigns, competitions, and the distribution of awards to fisheries entrepreneurs.
The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock encourages all citizens, organisations, and local communities to participate actively in the events and initiatives of National Fisheries Week. By participating, you help ensure the sustainability of fisheries resources and contribute directly to the success of this national endeavour. Let us work together to build sanctuaries and restore the country's native fish populations.
