Mrityunjayi Mitra sculpture erected in Sitakundu
It has been installed to commemorate the sacrifices of Indian allied forces during the 1971 Liberation War
A Mrityunjayi Mitra sculpture has been erected at the foot of Chandranath Hill in Sitakunda, Chattogram to commemorate the sacrifices made by Indian Allied forces in the Liberation War of 1971.
The sculpture was inaugurated on Tuesday by Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Shri Vikram Kumar Doraiswamy, Chairman of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Housing and Public Works and former Minister Eng Mosharraf Hossain as well as Member of Parliament of Sitakunda Didarul Alam.
Chittagong Zilla Parishad Chairman Abdus Salam and District Commissioner Shabbir Iqbal were also present during the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Indian High Commissioner Vikram Kumar Doraiswamy said, "Heroic freedom fighters and Indian soldiers sacrificed their lives in the area for the independence of this country."
"My father took part in the Liberation War as a pilot. So, I am very proud. Our friendly relationship with Bangladesh is not only historical and cultural, it is a blood relationship," he added.
Mentioning that the Bangladesh-India alliance will last forever, he said, "The people of this country will not forget the sacrifice of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for Bangladesh."
"This country has become independent in exchange for the sacrifice of three million martyrs and the dignity of the women. Those who want to hinder the progress of Bangladesh will not succeed," he added.
Also present on the occasion were Chattogram District Freedom Fighter Commander Mohammad Shahabuddin, Metropolitan Commander Mozaffar Ahmed, wife of Indian High Commission in Dhaka Sangeeta Doraiswamy, Second Officer at the Indian High Commission Dipti Alanghat, Assistant Indian Commissioner in Chattogram Anindya Banerjee, and local district Awami League leaders.
