According to the Sylhet Meteorological Department, the earthquake, measuring 5.3 on Richter scale, had its epicenter in Morigaon , Assam ,India

A moderate earthquake jolted during the early hours today in Sylhet and adjacent areas in the early hours today, causing panic among residents.

According to the Sylhet Meteorological Department, the earthquake, measuring 5.3 on Richter scale, had its epicenter in Morigaon , Assam ,India.

 The tremor occurred at 2.55 am Bangladesh Standard Time (BST), with epicenter located 346 km North-East from BMD Seismic Centre Agargaon, Dhaka.

As the depth of the earthquake epicenter was only 16 kilometers or 10 miles, so the intensity of the earthquake was very much strong comparing other same magnitude earthquakes.

However, no damages or causalities were reported.
