Khilgaon fire: 20 garages, two sawmills burned, says Fire Service
At least eight firefighting units were working to control the fire, according to a Fire Service and Civil Defence notice received by The Business Standard

At least 20 garages and two sawmills were burned in a fire that broke out at a garage hub near Taltala intersection of Khilgaon earlier this evening (21 February), the Fire Service and Civil Defence has said.
"We arrived at the scene at 7:35pm. Our nine units worked and were able to bring the fire under control at 9:35pm," Fire Service Director (Operations & Maintenance) Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury told reporters at around 11:00pm tonight.
"As far as we can see, 20 garages and two sawmills have been burnt down. We will be able to say the origin of the fire after the investigation," he added.
The cause of the fire is yet to be known.

"Car painting and engine work used to be done here. So the fire could have started from an oxyacetylene flame. Or it could have been started by someone lighting a cigarette or a short circuit. We will also investigate the possibility of sabotage as well. We will be able to say only after investigating the source of the fire," the Fire Service director said.

The fire, which broke out at around 7:30pm is yet to be doused. The first firefighting unit reached the spot at 7:35pm.
No casualties has been reported so far.

Meanwhile, speaking to The Business Standard, Mostafa, manager of Neyaddha Auto Engineering Works situated at the garage patti, said, "Today, there was a picnic of Bangladesh Auto Mobile Workshop Owners Association in Gazipur and all the garage owners were there.
"After the fire was brought under control, we entered inside. Most of the garages have burnt down. We will be able to tell the extent of the damage after all the calculations are done."

"There are 12-14 garages and 16-17 cars have burnt down. I heard that the fire broke out in the saw mill," he added.
Meanwhile, Bahadurzzaman, joint secretary general of Bangladesh Automobile Workshop Owners Association, claimed that there are 30 garages in the garage patti and each had 4-5 vehicles inside.
