Attack on ethnic minority students near NCTB: 1 more arrested in N'ganj

The Motijheel Police have arrested one more accused who had been booked in connection with a clash which broke out in front of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) in Motijheel on 15 January.
The accused Sayed Fazlul Karim Swapan, 42, was arrested at 2:30am today (22 February) during a raid in East Shiachar area under Narayanganj's Fatullah Model Police Station, Deputy Commissioner of Police (media and public relations) of DMP Muhammad Talebur Rahman said.
According to police sources, a case had been filed against 16 people, including the accused, and 200-300 unidentified people with the Motijheel Police Station on 17 January centring the clash.

Police have arrested four people in connection with this incident so far. Arrestee Swapan was later sent to jail through a court over the case.
Police said analysis of CCTV footage and other video evidence from the incident revealed that Swapan had attacked Rupaiya Sreshta during the clash. With the help of technology and intelligence, police confirmed his location and arrested him.
Attack in front of NCTB building
At least nine people were injured on 15 January in violence during simultaneous protest programmes by two groups — one supporting and the other opposing the removal of the image of graffiti with the word "Adivasi" in a textbook in front of the NCTB building in Dhaka.
The two groups are- the Aggrieved Indigenous Students and the Students for Sovereignty.
The latter has been widely accused of launching the attack on the former, with two of its members apprehended the next day by the police for their involvement in the attacks.
Police said the arrestees - Arif Al Khabir and Md Abbas - also used bandages and viodin, an ointment, to fake injuries on their heads.
