BB to issue banknotes with new designs in April-May
Due to increased demand of fresh bank notes prior to Eid-ul-Fitr the central bank will release notes which have been already printed with the old design till new designs can be launched, the release added

The Bangladesh Bank has decided to issue fresh banknotes with new designs between April and May this year.
The process of printing the new banknotes is underway, and the central bank is working diligently to release them in the market by that time, according to a press release issued by the bank on Thursday (21 February).
Previously, the Bangladesh Bank announced that the portrait of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman would be removed from the design of the currency notes. Instead, religious structures, Bengali traditions, and graffiti drawn by youths during the 2024 July-August uprising are being included in the new designs.
In December last year, central bank sources said that the banknotes of Tk20, Tk100, Tk500, and Tk1000 are being printed as per instruction of the interim government.
Due to increased demand for fresh banknotes ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, which falls at the end of March or early April, the central bank will release notes printed with the old design until the new designs can be launched, the release added.
According to the release, previously printed and fresh banknotes stored in the vaults of 80 branches of different scheduled banks will be available from 19-25 March.
The Bangladesh Bank collects and destroys old banknotes and issues new, fresh ones as part of its routine work. Due to increased demand for new banknotes during religious festivals, the central bank circulates fresh banknotes through scheduled banks.
