Man stabbed to death in broad daylight mugging while out with wife in Mohammadpur
The attackers tried to snatch Sumon’s mobile phone, but he refused to hand it over.
A man was stabbed to death allegedly by muggers near the Martyred Intellectuals' Graveyard gate in the Rayerbazar area of the capital's Mohammadpur today (26 July).
The deceased was identified as Fazle Rabbi Sumon, 25, who hailed from Pakhia Gournadi area in Bhola district. He worked at a hardboard store in the Signboard area of Siddhirganj, Narayanganj.
According to Md Faruk, in-charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost, Sumon was brought to the hospital's emergency unit around 3pm. After an initial examination, doctors declared him dead.
Prior to that, he was first taken to Sikder Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.
Sumon's wife said the couple had gone to visit the Martyred Intellectuals' Graveyard area in Rayerbazar earlier in the day when a group of armed muggers surrounded them. The attackers tried to snatch Sumon's mobile phone, but he refused to hand it over.
A scuffle ensued, during which the muggers reportedly stabbed Sumon and fled the scene with the phone.
"The body has been kept at the DMCH morgue for autopsy," Faruk said.
