DMP bans gatherings near Secretariat and CA's residence; Shahbag not on list
The restriction, which aims to maintain public order and ensure the security of the chief adviser, will remain in effect until further notice

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) today (10 May) issued a public notice prohibiting all forms of mass gatherings and processions in the areas adjacent to the Bangladesh Secretariat and the chief adviser's official residence, State Guest House Jamuna.
According to the notice, the restriction is aimed at maintaining public order and ensuring the security of the chief adviser. The restriction will remain in effect until further notice.
It was posted on the DMP's official Facebook page at 1:45pm.
"This is to inform the general public that, in the interest of maintaining public order and protecting the security of the chief adviser, under the authority vested in Section 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance (Ordinance No III/76), all kinds of meetings, gatherings, mass assemblies, processions, and parades, etc., are prohibited in and around the Bangladesh Secretariat and the chief adviser's official residence, Jamuna, and adjacent areas (Hotel Intercontinental Intersection, Kakrail Masjid Intersection, Officers Club Intersection, Mintu Road) from today (10 May 2025), until further notice," the notice stated.
The DMP notice comes amid ongoing protests led by the National Citizen Party (NCP) and its supporters, who have been staging a sit-in since Thursday night in front of the chief adviser's official residence, demanding a ban on the Awami League.
The demonstration intensified yesterday as other political and student groups, including Hefazat-e-Islam, Jamaat-e-Islami, and Students Against Discrimination, joined the blockade at Dhaka's Shahbag intersection, which remains blocked as of 2pm today.
