July trials to begin this month; BNP, Jamaat, NCP expressed confidence in CA, says press secy
The trial process for the crimes committed during the 2024 July uprising will begin this month, Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said today (24 May).
After meeting with the chief adviser this evening, the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and National Citizen Party (NCP) expressed confidence in his leadership, Shafiqul briefed reporters.
"The BNP called for elections by December. Jamaat said they support elections between December 2025 and June 2026. The NCP also said the same.
"The NCP and Jamaat said there is currently no level playing field for elections in the country," the press secretary added.
The NCP has strongly called for local government elections before the national election, he further said.
Yunus also reiterated his position on the next election, stressing that the government will hold the polls between December this year and June 2026.
"Yunus is a man of his word. He gave a cut-off time. He won't go beyond that," Shafiqul said.
During the meetings, the press secretary said, every party placed their position, expressing their full support for Yunus and his interim government.
Regarding the news about resignation of the chief adviser, they said they and the country's people have unflinching trust in the leadership of Yunus, seeking a free, fair and neutral election to be held under his leadership, he said.
Shafiqul further said National Consensus Commission Vice Chairman Ali Riaz, who was present at the meetings, stated that works are on to formulate the July Proclamation and it will be made soon.
