Interim govt dissolved as Tarique appointed PM
The gazette notification, issued last night (17 February), states that the president, acting under Clause (3) of Article 56 of the Constitution, has appointed Tarique Rahman as prime minister.
The interim government led by Muhammad Yunus has been formally dissolved through a gazette notification issued by the Cabinet Division, marking the official end of the advisory council that administered the country after the fall of the Awami League government.
The gazette notification, issued last night (17 February), states that the president, acting under Clause (3) of Article 56 of the Constitution, has appointed Tarique Rahman as prime minister, recognising him as a member of parliament who commands the confidence of the majority in parliament.
The president also approved the formation of a new government under his leadership.
"With the formation of the new government, the Advisory Council of the current interim government shall be considered dissolved," reads the notification.
Following the 13th parliamentary elections, the BNP secured more than a two-thirds majority and formed the government. The new cabinet comprises 50 members, including the prime minister, 25 ministers and 24 state ministers.
