BNP, interim govt call for nationwide prayers for Khaleda Zia's recovery
When questioned about the return of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman from London, Rizvi maintained that the decision rests solely with the leader.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has declared a nationwide programme of prayers and religious services for the recovery of party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia as her health condition remains unchanged.
He announced the initiative at a press conference at the party's Central Office in Nayapaltan, Dhaka today (4 December). Rizvi stated that prayers and religious services will be held in every mosque, temple, and other places of worship across the country tomorrow (5 December) for the quick return to health of the former prime minister.
Notably, the interim government also issued a separate, official appeal today for nationwide prayers for Khaleda Zia's speedy recovery, requesting services to be held in all places of worship tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Rizvi informed the media that Khaleda Zia's physical condition remains unchanged at Evercare Hospital, where she is being treated in the Critical Care Unit (CCU).
He stated, "Begum Khaleda Zia is a unique symbol of political unity in this country. Despite immense tyranny, oppression, and persecution, her decision and unwavering determination could not be shaken."
Rizvi asserted that while various conspiracies and torture may have caused her illness, her morale regarding the nation, its independence, sovereignty, and democracy has not been weakened. He also noted that the international community, alongside the people of Bangladesh, is praying for her recovery.
Tarique's return
When questioned about the return of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman from London, Rizvi maintained that the decision rests solely with the leader.
"He will return when he feels the time is right," Rizvi said. "He is a leader of the people... The decision will be a thoughtful one, considering the nation, the people, the politics, and Begum Khaleda Zia's recovery."
The 79-year-old former prime minister was admitted to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka on 23 November and has been undergoing treatment in the Critical Care Unit (CCU) for multiple serious health complications. The BNP chairperson remains under the care of a medical board of local and foreign specialists, with a four-member UK medical team and a Chinese team joining the treatment efforts yesterday.
