ADB to fund 4 highway projects
ADB decided to get involved in the highway projects in response to a request of Bangladesh prime minister in this regard
Asian Development Bank will finance the augmentation of the country’s four highways into four lanes, the highways being Dhaka-Sylhet, Rangpur-Banglabandha, Rangpur-Bhurimari and Barishal-Faridpur.
One of the four lanes, in case of each of the highways, will be built for the slow-moving vehicles.
Manmohan Prakash, country director (in Bangladesh) of Asian Development Bank (ADB), disclosed this to Obaidul Quader, Minister for Road-Transportation and Bridges, at a meeting at the secretariat on Wednesday, according to a press release issued by the ministry.

In the meantime, feasibility study concerning the possibility of expansion of two of the four highways (Barishal-Faridpur and Rangpur-Bhurimari) has already been completed, Manmohan told the meeting.
Expansion of Joydebpur-Chandra-Tangail-Elenga and Hatikamrul-Rangpur highways into four lanes, as well as the development of Cox's Bazar-Ukhiya-Teknaf highway are in progress under the ADB financing.
The minister also thanked Manmohan for ADB’s continued support in building infrastructure in Bangladesh, the press release added.
