HRDC welcomes CA’s directive to prepare list of victims killed in Awami League terror attacks in 15 years

The Human Rights Development Centre (HRDC) welcomes the directive issued by Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus to immediately prepare a comprehensive list of individuals killed in attacks carried out by Chhatra League, other Awami League-affiliated organisations, and state forces acting under the orders of the former government in the 15 years leading up to the historic July mass uprising of students, workers, and citizens.

HRDC views this step as a landmark move in the path toward democratic governance, justice, and human rights, reads a press release. This initiative will not only serve as an official historical record but will also help families of the victims to finally seek justice, adds the statement.

The Secretary General of the Human Rights Development Centre, Mahbul Haque, stated, "This directive is a bold and morally responsible step by the state. For too long, victims and survivors of political violence have been denied justice. We believe this initiative will open the door to long-awaited truth and accountability. In addition to documenting the names of those killed, we urge the government to also ensure justice, reparations, and rehabilitation for the survivors."

He further emphasised, "The investigation process must be transparent, impartial, and conducted according to international human rights standards. Perpetrators, regardless of political affiliation or official status, must be held accountable. This is the only path toward building a humane, just, and accountable state."

HRDC stands in full solidarity with this initiative and commits to offering all possible support in the process. The Centre also urges active participation from affected families, civil society, and human rights organisations to ensure that the process is inclusive and credible.
