A man was killed after being hit by a Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) garbage truck while crossing the road in the capital's Jatrabari area last night (23 October).
The deceased was identified as Iqbal Hossain, 35, son of Abul Hashem from Barishal. He lived with his family in Dhalpur, Jatrabari, and is survived by his wife and a son.
The accident occurred in the Kolapotti area of Jatrabari, police said. According to them, the garbage truck was being driven by the helper instead of the driver. An "angry crowd" caught him immediately after the incident and handed him over to the police.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Mizanur Rahman of Jatrabari Police Station told The Business Standard, "Iqbal died on the spot after being hit by the DSCC garbage truck. His body was later sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy."
"The truck has been seized, and the driver's assistant, who was operating the vehicle, has been handed over to us by an angry mob. The process of handing over the body to the family is underway," he added.
