Hefazat men snatch Mamunul away after he was held with ‘wife’

Leaders and activists of Hefazat-e-Islam snatched their leader Mawlana Mamunul Haque away, soon after he was detained along with a woman at a resort in Sonargaon of Narayanganj.
The incident took place around 7pm today when police were interrogating Mamunul, the central joint secretary of Hefazat-e-Islam, inside the resort, reports Prothom Alo.
The Hefazat men appeared in the scene with a procession and carried out vandalism at the resort - Royal Resort – before taking him away.

Additional Superintendent of Narayanganj Police Faruk Ahmed along with other cops was present during the incident.
However, Mamunul identified the woman as his second wife and stated that they went to the resort to spend leisure in the afternoon.
A group of locals confined the Hefazat leader in a room of the resort, after being confirmed about his presence with a woman.
Mamunul alleged that some people harassed him when he along with her wife went to the resort for refreshment.
"My statement is clear. We came here for refreshment. I will take legal action against them," he told media after being rescued.
Apart from that, a suspicion has been created over the woman's identity. Mamunul introduced his wife as Amina Tayeeba, but the woman identified herself as Jannat-ara Jhorna when she was asked separately.
In case of paternal residence, the woman said she is from Faridpur, while Mamunul claimed her to be from Khulna.
The Hefazat leader also failed to show any document that can prove authenticity of their marriage. He claimed that they got married verbally, not in documents.
Meantime, a video clip of his detention went viral and created a huge buzz on social media platforms.
The recent mayhem carried out by the Hefazat men in a number of districts has drawn public ire to the Islamist group as well as its leaders.
Mamunul Haque has long been under spotlight for his controversial statements on sculptures and disputed role in forming the new committee of Hefazat-e-Islam.
In November, Mamunul demanded an immediate halt to the process of installing a sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dholair Par area in the capital.
His remarks sparked strong reactions from different associate bodies of the ruling party and was followed by anarchy.
