According to its terms of reference, the committee will review the existing salaries, allowances and other financial benefits of entry-level doctors working in the private sector.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has formed a committee to prepare a separate salary structure for entry-level doctors working in private hospitals, clinics, and medical and dental colleges.
The information was disclosed in an office order issued yesterday (9 June).
Earlier, on 8 June, a discussion meeting was held at the conference room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), attended by the ministry secretary, the director generals of the DGHS and the Directorate General of Medical Education (DGME), as well as representatives of intern and postgraduate doctors.
The committee was formed following the joint statement issued after the meeting.
The director general of the DGME has been made convener of the committee. The director general of the DGHS, along with joint secretaries and directors of relevant divisions, will serve as members.
The director of human resource management at the DGME will serve as member secretary.
According to its terms of reference, the committee will review the existing salaries, allowances and other financial benefits of entry-level doctors working in the private sector.
It will also prepare a draft of a "reasonable, coordinated and dignified" salary structure after taking opinions from relevant stakeholders.
The committee has been asked to submit a report with necessary recommendations for implementing the proposed structure to the secretary of the Medical Education and Family Welfare Division within 20 working days.
The order also said the committee may co-opt additional members if necessary.
