Gulshan OC removed on 'administrative grounds' days after AL procession

Gulshan Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Daud Hossain has been removed, five days after a procession by the banned Awami League and its affiliated organisations in the capital's Gulshan that saw protesters hurl crude bombs at police.
However, the DMP order removing him did not cite the procession or the subsequent police action as the reason for his removal, stating only that he was being transferred for "administrative reasons".
The decision was announced in an office order signed by Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed today (16 September).

According to the order, Daud Hossain was attached to the Central Reserve Office under the DMP headquarters and Administration Division, effective this morning.
On Friday (11 September), around 11:45am, leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organisations brought out a procession in an alley near KFC on Road No 3 in Gulshan.
When police moved to disperse the procession, the protesters threw crude bombs at them. Police arrested two people on the spot and recovered five cocktails. At least 75 people have been arrested so far in connection with the incident.
Speaking at an event at the Secretariat yesterday (15 September), Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said there had been intelligence information about the procession.
"We had intelligence information. But on Friday, police may not have anticipated that they could do something like this after coming to the area for Friday prayers," he said.
Regarding the procession, the home minister said some people had gathered in the area around 11am, saying they would attend Friday prayers, and action was later taken against them.
