German envoy wishes Bangladesh 'good luck' in its return to democracy
"Next year, Bangladesh will have one of the largest democratic elections in the world, where more than 127 million people will be able to vote to express their democratic will," Lotz said.

Praising the Election Commission's efforts, German Ambassador to Bangladesh Rüdiger Lotz today (23 October) expressed optimism about the country's upcoming national election, calling it a major step toward the "return to democracy."
"This Election Commission is doing a great job in preparing for that enormous challenge, and I wish them good luck — and I wish good luck to the people of Bangladesh in their return to democracy," the envoy said during a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin and Election Commission Secretary Akhtar Ahmed at the EC headquarters in Dhaka.
"Next year, Bangladesh will have one of the largest democratic elections in the world, where more than 127 million people will be able to vote to express their democratic will," Lotz said.
"With that, the country has a chance to rejoin the league of democratic nations in Asia and globally," he added.
Calling the upcoming election an "enormously important step" not only for Bangladesh but also for the region and for democracy worldwide, the German ambassador emphasised the need for a credible and participatory process.
"We think that the country needs a credible election in which a plurality of parties can participate," he said in response to a question.
