Bus fares raised by 11 paisa per kilometre
The new fares, which came after a fuel price hike, would take effect immediately and would apply only to diesel-run buses.
Bus fares have been increased by 11 paisa per kilometre across the country in response to the recent hike in fuel prices.
The fares would be effective immediately and would apply only to diesel-powered buses, said Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Robiul Alam while announcing the fare update at the Secretariat today (23 April).
According to the revised fare structure, the per-kilometre fare for buses and minibuses in the metropolitan areas of Dhaka and Chattogram has gone up from Tk2.42 to Tk2.53.
Meanwhile, fares have increased from Tk2.12 to Tk2.23 per kilometre for long-distance routes, added the minister.
The minister also said CNG-run buses will not be subject to the fare increase. He also noted that fares would be reduced if fuel prices decline in the future.
No decision has yet been made regarding fare adjustments for rail or water transport.
The government recently increased the prices of retail fuel at the consumer level, citing rising global oil market trends.
Under the revised structure, which took effect on 19 April, diesel costs Tk115 per litre, octane Tk140, petrol Tk135 and kerosene Tk130.
The latest adjustment represents a sharp increase across all major fuel categories. Diesel has been raised by Tk15 per litre, octane by Tk20, petrol by Tk19 and kerosene by Tk18.
