Three members of a family were left with burn injuries in an explosion caused by a gas cylinder leak in the Talla Choto Masjid area of Fatullah, Narayanganj.
The incident occurred at around 4am today (23 March), leaving Harun Ar Rashid, 60, his wife Runa Akter, 40, and daughter Mim, 17, with burns.
Neighbours rescued the injured family and sent them to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS).
Confirming their admission, NIBPS Residential Surgeon Dr Shaon Bin Rahman said, "Of these, Harun sustained 1% burns, Mim had 1% burns, and Runa Akter suffered 62% burns."
Runa Akter's condition is critical, while the other two have been given first aid and discharged, he added.
Abdullah Al Arifin, deputy assistant director of Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defense, said, "We received news from Dhaka. A team has been sent to the scene. It appears the explosion occurred while lighting the gas stove."
"The incident may have been caused by a gas cylinder leak. Further details will be available after the investigation," he said.
Locals reported hearing a loud explosion in the early morning.
The explosion occurred when the stove was lit during Sehri, causing the entire room to explode, said the locals.
