Army personnel killed in Barishal road crash

A Bangladesh Army personnel was killed, and three others suffered serious injuries after a speeding bus hit their van on the Dhaka-Barisal highway in the Sauder Khal area of Gournadi upazila this afternoon (16 March).
The deceased was identified as Mujibar, the son of the late Keramat Ali, from Katakasthal village in Gournadi upazila. He was a retired army member.
Md Bipul Hossain, station officer at Gournadi Fire Service and Civil Defense, said a Dhaka-bound Labiba Paribahan bus was crossing the Sauder Khal area of Gournadi upazila on the highway when it struck a battery-powered passenger van from behind, leaving four passengers seriously injured.
On information, rescuers took the injured to the hospital, where doctors on duty declared Mujibar dead.
Aminur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gournadi Highway Police Station, said that the bus driver fled immediately after the accident.
"Both the bus and the van involved in the accident have been seized. The body of the deceased has been recovered and brought to the police station. Further legal proceedings are underway," he added.
