FSDS launched to advance research on governance, security, and policy
The establishment of FSDS marks a significant step in advancing independent research and policy analysis to enhance Bangladesh’s governance, security, and development strategies

The Foundation for Strategic and Development Studies (FSDS), a new research-driven think tank, was officially launched in Dhaka on Sunday (23 February). The institution aims to conduct in-depth research on governance, national security, development, and policy formulation in Bangladesh.
FSDS Chairman Major General (retd) Fazle Elahi Akbar outlined the institution's mission, stating that it would focus on evidence-based research to influence key policy areas. He emphasised the think tank's commitment to prioritising "Bangladesh First" in its research efforts.
The launch event featured keynote speeches from prominent figures, including economist Professor Mahbubullah, political scientist Professor Dilara Chowdhury, legal expert Professor Bohan Uddin Khan, and Jahangirnagar University Vice-Chancellor Professor Kamrul Ahsan. They highlighted the necessity of strategic research in guiding national policies and development strategies.
Senior military officials, including Chief of Army Staff General Waker-uz-Zaman, Navy Chief Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hasan, and Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmud Khan, attended the event. Former army chiefs Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq and M. Nuruddin Khan were also present, along with political leaders and media representatives.
