Md Mainul Islam was appointed as the IGP on 6 August, and subsequently replaced by Baharul Alam on 20 November

The government has appointed former inspector general of police (IGP) Md Mainul Islam as Bangladesh's new ambassador to Poland.
The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification today (10 April) regarding the appointment, with immediate effect.
The notification also stated the suspension of Mainul Islam's post-retirement leave (PRL) and associated benefits. His ambassadorship is on a two-year contractual basis.
The terms of his appointment include the condition that he must relinquish any other profession, business, or work affiliations with government, semi-government, and private institutions or organisations.
Further details of his appointment will be outlined in his contract.
Md Mainul Islam was appointed as the IGP on 6 August 2024, following the fall of the Awami League government through the mass uprising. However, he was replaced on 20 November by retired police officer Baharul Alam.
Following his removal as IGP, the Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification on 26 November, assigning his services to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for an ambassadorial role.

In a separate development, the government has promoted Md Mofidur Rahman, who was serving as an additional secretary in the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, to the position of secretary in the same ministry.
He had been performing the routine duties of the culture secretary for several days prior to this official appointment.
