Feni River in Feni is flowing 2 meters above the danger level, and Halda River in Chattogram is flowing 1 meter above the danger level at some points.

The flood situation has worsened due to rising water levels and inundated new areas on the river banks.

At least five lakh people of Mirsharai, Fatikchari, Hathazari, Rangunia and Raozan upazilas of Chattogram have been trapped in water, according to the district administration.

Meanwhile, the Dhaka-Chattogram highway has been closed to traffic since yesterday (22 August) evening. The distributing agents' officials said no Dhaka newspaper had reached Chattogram today.

Earlier, Chattogram's rail communication with the rest of the country was also disconnected since 11am yesterday as the railway lines were submerged in flood waters.

Halda River's dam on the Hathazari and Fatikchari border area was destroyed around 10pm yesterday, after which water started inundating the area.

Some villages of Farhadabad Union of Hathazari have been flooded. Announcements have been made from microphones of mosques to prompt residents to evacuate safely.

On the other hand, the embankment between the Nazirhat old bridge and the new bridge broke down. It inundated the Chattogram-Khagrachari highway, Executive Engineer of the Water Development Board, Dr Tanzir Ahmed, told TBS.

No vehicles other than rescuers are allowed to pass after Baroiyer Hut in Mirsharai, he added.

According to the Chattogram Divisional Office of the Water Development Board, the Ramgarh point of Feni River has a normal danger level of 16.90 meters. Water was recorded at 18.90 meters at 9am today (23 August), 2 meters more than the danger limit.

The danger level at Narayanhat point of the Halda river is 14.80 m. At 9am today, water was recorded at a 15.90 meters height, which is 1.10 meters above the danger level.

However, the water of Sangu, Ichamati, Chengi and Myinee rivers has reduced and is flowing below the danger level. This has improved the wildlife situation in Khagrachari district.
