Ex-Narayanganj mayor Ivy shown arrested in another murder case
Yesterday, Ivy was granted bail by the High Court in five separate cases
Police have shown Selina Hayat Ivy, former mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation, arrested in another murder case filed over an incident during the July Uprising in Siddhirganj.
Narayanganj Additional Superintendent of Police Tarek Al Mehedi confirmed the development on Friday night (27 February) saying the case was filed over the death of interior technician Selim Mondol in 2024.
According to the police, the court order to this end came on Thursday afternoon while she was already in jail in connection with other cases.
The case statement said an arson attack took place on 20 July last year in the Chittagong Road area of Siddhirganj.
During the incident, a fire broke out on the ground floor of a building where interior decoration work was underway.
Selim Mondol and two other workers sustained severe burn injuries and later died.
Investigating Officer Mashum Billah, a sub-inspector at Siddhirganj Police Station, submitted a petition to the court seeking to show Ivy arrested in the case, citing her alleged involvement based on the investigation.
Yesterday, Ivy was granted bail by the High Court in five separate cases.
The High Court bench of Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher passed the order.
She was shown arrested in four of the five cases – the murder cases of bus driver Abul Hossain Miji, Abdur Rahman, Md Yasin and Parvez – filed with Fatullah Police Station.
Another case, filed with Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station, involves charges of assault and obstruction of government work.
Ivy was arrested around 3am on 9 May last year from Chunka Kutir in Deobhog. She was later shown arrested in several cases.
