Ex-AL MP Laila Parvin Sejuti arrested in Satkhira, sent to jail
Laila has been arrested in connection with a case filed under the Special Powers Act of 1974

Laila Parvin Sejuti, former reserved seat MP and the education and human resources secretary of the Awami League's (AL) Satkhira district unit, was arrested by police early today (20 May).
She was taken into custody from her residence in Satkhira town at around 2:30am, said Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shaminul Haque.
He said Laila has been arrested in connection with a case filed under the Special Powers Act of 1974.
A sabotage case was filed in the aftermath of the student-led mass uprising in July last year, which toppled the AL government. The case was registered by the police on 18 February 2025.
Following her arrest, Laila was sent to jail through the Satkhira Chief Judicial Magistrate Court around 1pm today.
"After her arrest, she was produced before the court and subsequently sent to jail," confirmed OC Shaminul.
Meanwhile, no bail hearing took place on behalf of the accused, nor did police seek remand at the court.
As Laila was being taken to jail from the court, several leaders and activists of the BNP-affiliated Shramik Dal staged a protest outside the court premises.
