Ershad responding to calls, opening eyes: GM Quader

Jatiya Party acting chairman GM Quader on Tuesday said the health condition of his brother HM Ershad, now undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) here, remained mostly unchanged, but he is responding to calls and opening eyes.

“There’s no marked change in Palli Bandhu’s (Ershad’s) health condition. He’s responding to the calls of relatives and doctors amid drowsiness. Doctors considering it as a positive sign,” he said.

GM Quader came up with the remarks while speaking at a press conference at Jatiya Party Chairman’s Banani office around 1pm.

Contradicting Health Minister Zahid Malik, he said Ershad was not put on life support as he was given only oxygen support for his respiratory problem.

After visiting Ershad at the CMH, the health minister on Monday evening said the Jatiya Party chairman has been put on life support as his condition turned critical.

GM Quader said his brother is given oxygen for two hours under pressure and then he is taking oxygen normally.

The Jatiya Party acting chairman said doctors are still conducting various medical tests on Ershad.

He urged all, including the media, not get confused with any other information rather than given by their party’s press briefing or ISPR about Ershad’s health condition. “If we don’t come up with any latest information, you should think his condition remains unchanged.”

Jatiya Party secretary general Moshiur Rahman Ranga urged their party leaders and activists not to give any post on the social media, including Facebook, with misleading and fictitious information about Ershad’s health condition.

Ershad, also the leader of the opposition in parliament, was admitted to the CMH on June 26 as his condition deteriorated.

The former military ruler has been suffering from various old age complications, including low haemoglobin and liver problem, high bilirubin and serious keen pain.
