Dhaka sees its first Kalbaishaki storm this season

Although the city was swept over by a mild heatwave, the setting sun followed whooshing winds in the offing of the season's first Kalbaishakhi storm.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, rain or thunder showers with lightning flashes and temporary gusty wind was likely at one or two places over Khulna and Sylhet divisions in 24 hours commencing 9am today (5 April).
Around 7pm in the evening, parts of Dhaka already started witnessing heavy rain showers in various areas as others remained anticipating rain while witnessing the storm growing stronger.
A mild heat wave is sweeping Rajshahi, Pabna, Sirajganj, Khulna, Bagerhat, Patuakhali and Rangamati and it may continue.
About a week ago, the BMD forecast that Kalbaishakhi was unlikely to hit the country any time soon.
Although mild rain will sweep over Dhaka and other parts of the country in the next few days, there is no likelihood of a nor'wester taking place anywhere in the country, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department on 22 March.
"There is no low pressure on anything in the Bay, which means there won't be any thunder storm in the coming days. The current cloudy weather is due to the westerly low pressure," Meteorologist at the BMD Bazlur Rashid had told The Business Standard.
According to today's weather bulletin, the weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy skies elsewhere over the country.
Day temperature may rise slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.
Trough of low lies over West Bengal and adjoining areas. Seasonal low lies over the South Bay.
Country's highest temperature was recorded in Khulna's Mongla at 36.8 degree Celsius on Saturday.
