Last spell of monsoon rain disrupts Dhaka’s morning commute
Rain likely to subside from Friday, says Met Office

A morning spell of rain disrupted commuters in the capital today (9 October), as the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said this could mark the final rainfall of the monsoon season.
From early morning, an overcast sky loomed over Dhaka before the rain began, catching office-goers and schoolchildren on their way to their destinations. The downpour caused traffic congestion and inconvenience across major city roads.
"This can be termed as the season's last rainfall. The monsoon may stay over Bangladesh for another four to five days. There is a chance of rain in Dhaka till tomorrow, after which it will start decreasing," BMD Meteorologist AKM Nazmul Hoque told The Business Standard.
According to BMD data, the capital recorded 34 millimetres of rainfall between 6am and 9am.
Nazmul Hoque explained that the current rainfall is a result of the interaction between easterly and westerly air currents as the monsoon begins to weaken.
"The monsoon is now in its withdrawal phase. As new air flows in, it creates clouds and triggers rainfall," he said.
Apart from Dhaka, rainfall was also reported in neighbouring districts and parts of the coastal Barishal, Khulna, and Chattogram divisions. Light to moderate showers may continue intermittently in the capital throughout the day, though their intensity is expected to lessen.
The meteorologist further noted that rainfall activity is likely to decrease significantly from Friday, marking the gradual end of this year's monsoon season.
