The by-election to Natore-4 constituency that fell vacant following the death of Member of Parliament Prof Abdul Quddus will be held on 11 October with the use of ballot papers.

Election Commission Secretary Jahangir Alam announced the schedule at a meeting of the commission yesterday.

The deadline for submission of nomination papers is 17 September, and the nomination papers will be selected on 18 September, he said.

There will be no CCTV cameras in the polling stations, added Jahangir.

The Natore-4 (Gurdaspur-Baraigram) constituency was declared vacant following the death of Prof Abdul Quddus on 30 August.

Additionally, those aged 18 and above who wish to add their names, or change constituency in the voters' list for the 12th national elections, can do so by applying by 14 September, according to the EC secretary.

"As the 12th national elections will be held in the last week of December or the first week of January, those who were eligible to be a voter as of 1 January, 2023, but failed to register their names, will be given an opportunity to be a voter," he said.

In compliance with the Electoral Roll Act, the updated voter list was published on 2 March this year, Jahangir added.
