Elderly man reportedly strangled to death over duck dispute in Ctg

An elderly man was reportedly strangled to death by a youth during a dispute over domestic ducks in Mirsarai upazila of Chattogram today (6 May).
The deceased was identified as Fazlul Karim (70), son of Sheikh Ahmed.
The incident occurred around 11am at the Sheikh Hamid Muhuri house in Madhyam Mayani village under Mayani union of the upazila.
Mirsarai Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Atiqur Rahman said the body was recovered and sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
According to the victim's younger brother, Bazlul Karim, the accused, identified as Md Zakaria Zahed, had taken four to five ducks from Fazlul Karim two days earlier. When Bazlul confronted Zakaria about the matter this morning, Zakaria reportedly became enraged and attacked Fazlul.
"He punched and strangled my brother to death," Bazlul claimed, adding that preparations were underway to file a case against the accused.
Locals who witnessed the altercation said during the heated argument over the ownership of the ducks, Zakaria physically assaulted Fazlul, striking him and grabbing him by the neck. Fazlul collapsed during the assault and later died while being taken home.
Although a case had not been filed as of this evening, police were actively working to arrest the suspect, OC Atiqur said.
