Admission tests in general, science, technology universities to be held in batches

Admission tests of 2020-2021 academic year in 19 general, science and technology universities of the country will be held in batches. 

The examinations will be held in three subjects – humanities, business and science. 

There will be direct admission tests in these public universities. Question papers will be prepared based on the syllabus of higher secondary.

The decision was made on Tuesday at a meeting with vice-chancellors of the universities. 

On 26 February, a decision was made in principle to conduct admission tests in three groups in public universities.

University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof Kazi Shahidullah presided over the meeting where UGC members Prof Dr Md Sajjad Hossain, Prof Dr Muhammad Alamgir, Prof Dr Biswajit Chand and Prof Dr Md Abu Taher were present.

The joint convener of the general, science and technology universities and the vice-chancellor of Jagannath University, Prof Mizanur Rahman, said, "The central admission test committee comprising the vice-chancellors will decide on the admission test procedure for this group. It will give students scores after tests."

"The universities of this group will publish advertisements in newspapers regarding admission of students mentioning their respective conditions and demands. Universities will admit students after getting scores. Therefore, no separate admission test will be held."

Joining the meeting virtually, UGC Chairman Prof Kazi Shahidullah said there was no chance for the universities to withdraw from admission tests in a cluster system due to the Covid-19 pandemic. 

He urged the vice-chancellors to prepare for holding the tests in a direct and easy way considering the situation of students and parents.

Last year, admission tests were held in a batch system in seven agriculture universities.
