Left Democratic Alliance calls for forming alternative political force inspired by ideals of ’71 and ’24
The LDA coordinator urges all progressive forces to join a national convention on 29 November to formulate an alternative political force
The Left Democratic Alliance (LDA), a coalition of left-leaning political parties, and Bangladesh Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal have called for a national convention to initiate the formation of an alternative political force rooted in the spirit of the Liberation War and the aspirations of the 2024 Mass Uprising.
The announcement came at a joint press conference at the Maitree Auditorium of Mukti Bhaban in the capital this afternoon (15 November).
Reading out a written statement, LDA Coordinator Bazlur Rashid Firoz said the country's democratic structure has been repeatedly weakened over the past five decades due to "one-party dominance, military rule, and partisan governments."
He said that despite the mass uprisings of 1990 and 2024, the gains achieved were "largely reversed each time."
"One and a half years after the July 2024 Mass Uprising, the country is again trapped in crisis and disorder. Unless we break out of this cycle, fulfilling the dream of the Liberation War will remain impossible," he said.
Firoz noted that ensuring peace and stability requires establishing a progressive democratic government that prioritises the interests of workers, the poor, the middle class, and "patriotic citizens."
He said the country has been pushed into prolonged crises under previous governments and military-backed administrations.
The LDA leader called for uniting the interests of "95% of the people on one platform" and urged all progressive forces to join a national convention on 29 November to formulate an alternative political programme.
