UIU withdraws permanent expulsions, grants conditional reinstatement to several students
After reconsideration, the committee decided to lift all permanent expulsions and instead imposed reduced penalties in the form of conditional punishments

The United International University (UIU) authorities have officially withdrawn permanent expulsion orders previously issued against several students, following a re-evaluation of their appeal applications by the UIU Disciplinary Committee.
In a meeting held earlier today (21 June), the committee reviewed the cases of students who had been permanently expelled for violations of the university's Code of Conduct.
After reconsideration, the committee decided to lift all permanent expulsions and instead imposed reduced penalties in the form of conditional punishments.
According to a statement signed by Md Zulfiqur Rahman, registrar of UIU, some of the students have now been placed under "suspended expulsion." This means they will be allowed to resume their studies from the Spring 2025 trimester, but any future breach of UIU's Code of Conduct will result in their immediate permanent expulsion.
Others have been given a two-trimester expulsion, covering Spring 2025 and Summer 2025. These students will be eligible to return to classes starting from the Fall 2025 trimester, also under suspended expulsion conditions.
All affected students will soon be formally notified of the disciplinary decisions through their official UIU student email accounts.
Earlier, a group of students from UIU blocked the road in the capital's Notun Bazar area, protesting the expulsion of 26 final-year honours students.
The protest began around 8:30am this morning, where the protesters made a five-point demand, including the withdrawal of expulsion orders for students involved in the movements against the vice chancellor.
