Time and marks to be slashed for DU online exams

The authorities of the University of Dhaka have decided to reduce the time and marks for the year-end exams set to be held online from 1 July.

The Academic Council, the formal forum that decides academic policies of the university, made the decision while approving the proposal to hold year-end exams online from 1 July.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Deans Committee of DU decided to hold the year-end exams of all academic years online from 1 July if the Covid-19 situation does not improve in the country by this time.

However, final results will be prepared after converting the evaluated results into the prevailing full marks, reports the daily Prothom Alo.

After the meeting of the Academic Council, the Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Education) of the university, Prof ASM Maqsood Kamal, said that if the Covid situation does not improve, the final examinations of all the years of Dhaka University will start online as per the decision of the Deans Committee, reports Prothom Alo.

The deans of the faculties and the directors of the institutes have been tasked to prepare a strategy paper to specify the acceptability of the online test and how to ensure the participation of students in the tests, said Prof ASM Maqsood Kamal, adding that they have been asked to submit the strategy paper within two weeks.

Apart from this, teachers will also be given training on how to perform duties as examiners during the online exams.

However, if the situation becomes normal, the examinations will be conducted in-person in accordance with the conventional rules. 

Computer-based practical tests will also be taken online. Other lab based practical tests will be taken following proper rules of hygiene.
