IUB welcomes over 1,000 new students for summer 2025 semester

Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) has formally welcomed more than 1,000 new undergraduate students for the Summer 2025 semester.

An orientation ceremony was held on May 22, 2025, at the IUB Auditorium, organised by the Office of Admissions, Financial Aid, and International Relations. The event was attended by parents of incoming students, senior management, faculty members, and administrative officials.
Of the newly admitted students, 57% are male and 43% female. Approximately 68% of the residents are from Dhaka, while the remaining 32% are from other districts across the country.

Speakers at the orientation included IUB Vice-Chancellor Professor M. Tamim; Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Daniel W. Lund; Acting Dean of the School of Business and Entrepreneurship, Professor Dr Raisul Awwal Mahmud; Dean of the School of Environment and Life Sciences, Professor Dr Shah M Faruque; Dean of the School of Pharmacy and Public Health, Professor Dr JMA Hannan; Acting Dean of the School of Engineering, Technology and Sciences, Dr Habib Bin Muzaffar; and Head of the Department of English and Modern Languages, Professor Dr Nawrin Rahnuma, who spoke on behalf of the Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. Additional Registrar Mona Rahman also addressed the gathering.

The welcome speech was delivered by Lima Chowdhury, Director of Admissions, Financial Aid, and International Relations. The session was hosted by Priyanka Dey, Assistant Director of Admissions. The first segment of the programme concluded with the recognition of students who achieved top scores in the university's entrance examination. Distinguished guests presented the awardees with honorary mementoes.

In the second part of the programme, Atif M Safi, Head of the Office of Student Activities, gave an overview of IUB's vibrant club culture and co-curricular opportunities. Mona Rahman then spoke about university policies and student services. The event concluded with lively performances by the IUB Music Club and IUB Dance Club.
