International conference on sustainable technologies for the 4th industrial revolution begins at GUB

Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) hosts a 2-day conference on Sustainable Technologies for Industry 4.0" at its permanent campus at Purbachal American City, Dhaka on Saturday.

Faculty of science and engineering at GUB organised the conference with a view to prepare its students for facing challenges of the fourth industrial revolution, said a press release issued by GUB.

GUB Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Golam Samdani Fakir presided over the opening session where Prof Dr ASM Maksud Kamal, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) of Dhaka University, was present as special guest.

GUB Pro-VC Prof Dr Md Abdur Razzaque, IEEE Fellow at University of Melbourne, Australia Dr Rajkumar Buyya, IEEE Fellow at University of Waterloo, Canada Dr Claudio Cañizares, IEEE Fellow at University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada Professor Vincent Wong, IEEE Fellow at University of New South Wales, Australia Hussein Abbass and Professor Sushmita Mitra, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata and Professor Emeritus of BRAC University, were present during the conference.

During the conference, DU Pro VC Prof Dr ASM Maksud Kamal said, "The fourth industrial revolution is a challenge for us. So, we want to turn the challenge into possibility through adopting modern technologies in education system."

GUB Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Md Golam Samdani Fakir said, "The pandemic situation has put forth a completely new challenge for the education sector. Here at the Green University of Bangladesh, we took prompt action right at the very beginning of the lock down phase by going completely online in order to make sure that valuable time is not wasted from the lives of our young students."

Pro Vice Chancellor of GUB Prof Dr Md Abdur Razzaque said, "The STI 2020 conference aims to present theoretical and empirical studies that contribute to developing a better understanding of Sustainable Technologies for Industry 4.0."

He said that, the Fourth Industrial Revolution or Industry 4.0 is both an opportunity and a challenge to enhance global manufacturing output to meet the rising human needs without hurting the environment.

Industrial automation, connection and aggregation of different data in corporate information systems are phenomena that need to be studied in-depth, such studies would make them contribute to the new business strategy, bringing concrete benefits, he added.
