Four CUET professors listed among world’s top 2% researchers
The CUET scholars recognised are Professor Muhammad Mostafa Kamal Bhuiyan (Mechanical Engineering), Professor Md Ashraf Ali (Physics), Associate Professor Md Moktar Hossain (Physics), and Assistant Professor Sumit Majumdar (Biomedical Engineering).

Four faculty members of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) have been named among the world's top two percent of researchers for 2025, according to a survey jointly conducted by Stanford University, USA, and the Netherlands-based scientific publishing group Elsevier. The list was published on 19 September.
The CUET scholars recognised are Professor Muhammad Mostafa Kamal Bhuiyan (Mechanical Engineering), Professor Md Ashraf Ali (Physics), Associate Professor Md Moktar Hossain (Physics), and Assistant Professor Sumit Majumdar (Biomedical Engineering).
CUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiyan lauded the achievement as a source of pride for the university, noting that despite limited resources, CUET faculty have secured global recognition and encouraged further research advancement.
Prof Bhuiyan, who has previously appeared on the list four times, earned his PhD in renewable energy from Central Queensland University, Australia, and has research interests in renewable energy, alternative fuels, energy conversion, and thermal-fluid sciences.
Prof Ali, who completed his PhD in condensed matter physics at CUET, currently leads an advanced computational materials lab funded by TWAS and has 3,468 citations. Associate prof Hossain earned his PhD from Yamanashi University, Japan, holds a patent in bulk silicon crystal growth, and has 3,286 citations.
Assistant prof Majumdar, with a PhD from McMaster University, Canada, researches wearable biosensors, biomedical electronics, AI, assistive technology for the elderly, and smart textiles; this marks his third appearance on the top 2% list.
The ranking evaluates researchers based on career-long and recent one-year performance, analysing publication quality, H-index, citations, and other metrics across 22 scientific fields and 174 subfields. This year, 236,314 scientists were included.
The Stanford–Elsevier top 2% list is a globally recognised benchmark highlighting researchers' long-term academic contributions and citation impact. Elsevier publishes over 2,000 journals annually, maintaining an archive of more than 7 million articles
