10 CUET students served show-cause notice over ragging allegations

Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) has issued show-cause notices to 10 students accused of ragging. All of them are first-year students from the 2023–24 academic session, enrolled in different departments.
The decision was announced yesterday (18 August) through 10 separate notices signed by the director of the Directorate of Student Welfare.
According to the notices, on the night of 13 August, around 1am, the provost and assistant provosts of Muktijoddha Hall found nine students from the 2024–25 session being harassed inside room N-512 of the dormitory by 10 senior students. Following this, the accused were served with show-cause notices.
The accused students have been directed to submit handwritten explanations to the Directorate of Student Welfare by 3 September, stating why disciplinary action should not be taken against them. They have also been asked to appear in person on the same day for a hearing to present their statements.
Speaking to reporters, CUET's Director of Student Welfare, Dr Md Mahbubul Alam, said, "This is a continuous process. The students have been given notices and asked for written replies. Their statements will also be heard during the hearing. If further investigation is deemed necessary, it will be carried out before deciding on appropriate measures."
